Meet Jared Nixon. Jared works on our Services team and is basically a jack of all trades. The guy who lets you know when Wifi is going to be down? Jared. Protecting your computer against phishing messages? Jared. Helping coordinate IT changes on the advisory board? Yep, Jared.
Let’s kick this interview off with a lightning round. Are you ready?
Vanilla or Chocolate?
Pizza or Tacos?
Mountains or the sea?
Death by shark attack or train attack?
That’s a really weird question, but I think train. Just knowing that sharks exist is such a terrifying thought.
But you’d rather go to the sea, even though sharks live there?
Yeah, I would as weird as that sounds. I’m actually scuba diving certified even though I’m terrified of sharks. My brother and I got certified together a long time ago and then went down to the Virgin Islands to dive. I’d like to get re-certified soon.
That’s so cool! What’s the process of learning to scuba dive like in Oklahoma since we’re land locked?
Well, you learn how to do everything in a swimming pool. But to be certified to you have to go on a real dive and I did mine in a lake down by Lawton. That was terrifying because you could not see ANYTHING. The water is so murky that you’re not sure what you’re going to run into when you’re down there!
That does sound terrifying! I won’t make you relive that any longer than you have to, so lets do some fun questions! If you could have a super power, what would it be?
Teleportation, but I would only use it in travel where the journey wasn’t part of the adventure. Like I’d want to use it to get out of OKC traffic.
If you could join the cast of any cartoon, which one would it be?
Futurama. I’d hang out with Fry and Bender.
T.V. characters have theme music, what would your theme song be?
Probably the theme music from Curb Your Enthusiasm.
That is the greatest answer to that question I’ve ever heard.
*laughs* I can hear it playing in so many different situations and Larry David is just hilarious.
Who would you want to meet if you could meet anyone?
Probably Frank Sinatra. I have always loved his music and he seems like an interesting person to sit down and talk with. Also maybe Kurt Vonnegut. He’s a great author. I loved Slaughterhouse Five.
Would you say that’s your favorite book?
No, I love it but I would have to go with Blood Meridian for my favorite. I mean it’s written in old english style but it’s about the West! It’s one of those books that you have to pick apart to interpret its meaning but it also absorbs you. I don’t know if this happens to you, but sometimes when I read I’ll zone out and have to go back and re-read what I just read; but it’s not like that with Blood Meridian, it absorbs you.
Since you mentioned you liked Westerns, is it safe to say you like Blazing Saddles?
Yes! I love Mel Brooks. I like satirical humor.
Let’s go Inside the Actor’s Studio with this last question; “If Heaven exists, what do you want God to say when you reach the Pearly Gates?”
Well, you didn’t think you ever would, but you made it!
