Meet Katie Garrison. We’re proud to have Katie as a Visual Communications Intern for Team MarCom. Katie is not only talented and hard working but also a positive influence in our office (although she would modestly tell you otherwise). Katie works within the IT brand to design print and digital graphics to communicate our services and events. We sat down with her recently to talk more about her role in IT, her love of space, and favorite thing about working in technology.
What makes your hometown famous?
I’m from Glenpool, OK, the town known for making Tulsa famous. Oil was discovered in the early 1900s, which caused the population boom in Tulsa.
What is your favorite blog?
Probably Creative Bloq. They cover a lot of the current design trends and feature tips and inspiration.
How would you spend your perfect day?
I would hike all day on an awesome mountain. Once I got to the top, I would spend the night stargazing.
What can’t you live without?
I couldn’t live without coffee. My favorite brand is Onyx Lab coffee from Crimson and Whipped Cream.
If you had a time machine, where would you go?
300-500 years in the future. I’m really interested to see how far technology will have come. But going too far might be overwhelming. Just imagine someone from 1500 trying to figure out our technology!
Cats or dogs?
Cats in theory, dogs in practice. I love cat photos and videos, but dogs make better companions.
What were you most concerned about at age 10?
Math competitions. I was a super competitive kid and winning the weekly math challenges was always the most important thing to me.
Do you have any phobias?
Most people are afraid of sharks, but I’m terrified of whales. They’re just so big and unpredictable, it’s pretty scary imagining what they could do.
What’s your favorite thing about working in technology?
I feel like I always get to see behind the scenes. We’re the first to know the upcoming products and services–it makes me feel like I have access to top-secret information.
What is your secret talent?
What is something on your bucket list?
I’d love to fly in a spaceship. Seeing Earth from space would be incredible.
